Standing, Special Mackerel, and Ecosystem Scientific and Statistical Committees (SSC) Meeting

Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council to Convene a Meeting of its Standing, Special Mackerel, and Ecosystem Scientific and Statistical Committees (SSC)

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council's Standing, Special Mackerel, and Ecosystem Scientific and Statistical Committees will meet March 27 and 28, 2013, at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay Hotel, 2900 Bayport Drive in Tampa, Florida. The meeting will begin at 8:30am Wednesday and will adjourn no later than 5:00pm Thursday.

The Standing and Special Mackerel SSC will meet jointly Wednesday, March 27, 2013, to review benchmark stock assessments and recommend acceptable biological catch for cobia and Spanish mackerel. The Standing and Ecosystem SSC will meet jointly Thursday, March 28, 2013, to receive a presentation on the multidisciplinary, multi-year Integrated Ecosystems Assessment project that the Southeast Fisheries Science Center is conducting. The presentation will review:

 

  • the Gulf of Mexico Integrated Ecosystems Assessment Program
  • the Gulf of Mexico Ecosystem Status Report, and
  • aspects of the ecosystem modeling effort
  • The Standing SSC will then meet Thursday afternoon to discuss Acceptable Biological Catch Control Rule revisions and review the Southeast Data, Assessment, and Review schedule and priorities.
